:: Back..with a Tag ::

Ok, ok..so I promised an update, like, almost a week ago.
I'm not even going to create any excuses. Truth be told, I am just plain L-A-Z-Y.
There.

So now I'm back. But most probably, not for good. Heh.

Anyway, I owe Anne a food tag, like eons ago.
So here it goes. So sorry babe. Better late than never, right??
Riiiighhhhtt.

Favorite Food Meme

2) Requirements: Find some info about the food and show delicious pictures of it?

3) Quantity: FIVE PEOPLE.

4) Tag Mode: You leave their blog and post link and add to the list below.

I have passion for food and cooking, thus resulting into a shocking number of favorite foods.
It first crossed my mind to write about Hummus Bil Lahm, a Jordanian appetizer, which is chickpeas paste + sautéed minced lamb sprinkled with a pinch of paprika powder and served with warm lebanese bread. Hmm..yum yum!

But I changed my mind. Although it's one of my favorites, it still can't beat this.

Epok-epok, or more popularly known in Malaysia as 'karipap', is my all time favorite.
But not just any ordinary 'epok-epok'. I only eat 'epok-epok sardine'.

Here's what I found when I wiki-ed the word epok-epok:
"Curry puff is a Malaysian and Singaporean snack which is of Malay origin. It is a small pie consisting of specialised curry with chicken and potatoes in a deep-fried pastry shell. The curry is especially thick and rich to prevent itself from running.

This snack is found at many stores, especially at Malay food stalls. The Malay version of this snack is known as epok-epok which is smaller than the curry puff. Other varies of the epok epok that is filled without chicken and half a boiled egg and an alternative is canned sardines. Curry puffs are also sold by Chinese stalls throughout the island.

Some of the more renowned curry puff includes A1 Curry Puff and Old Chang Kee. Polar Puffs and Cakes introduced the curry puff with western puff pastry, which has a different taste and shape. This version of the curry puff can be found also at Delifrance in Singapore as Curry Chicken Feuillette. Other puff snacks modelled on the curry puff concept have also been introduced. For example, A1 Curry Puff also sells puffs with sardine, yam, durian, corn and even custard filling.

In Singapore, the commonly known Old Chang Kee, has been selling curry puffs for over 50 years. Now it has outlets all over Singapore. Curry Puffs are also commonly seen in Singapore's Pasar Malams and other stalls in Shopping Centres".

Wikipedia is amazing, right? I wouldn't know what to write about karipaps, other than my love for it..ahaks~! :p

Perhaps some of you were wondering why I call it 'Epok-epok' instead of 'Karipap'?
Because that's what we call it in Singapore.
But don't ask me why it was named so, because I honestly have no idea why.

There was one time, when I was schooling in Al-Attas, my friends laughed their asses off just because I said, "Eh, boleh tak belikan epok-epok?" (read : Eh, can you buy for me some epok-epok?).
I was, like, what's so funny? :p
Turned out they don't call it epok-epok here in Malaysia, but KARIPAP! *slaps forehead*
(oooh....makcik baru tau!!! :p)

Anyway, as I was saying earlier, I only eat epok-epok sardine. MmMmm...yummeh!!

I remember craving for it when I was preggie with Hawra. Of course, lots of stalls here have epok-epok sardine. But most of 'em add potatoes into the filling.
Absolutely Bluek!
I hate it when they put potatoes in the filling. To me, it spoils the taste.
So Zali had a rough time looking for these sardines&onions-only karipap (sorry for al l the trubble I caused you, sayang! :D )
We went to more than 20 stalls selling karipap asking the same question over and over again - "Ada taruk kentang tak?"(read : did you add in potatoes?), to which the answer would always be, "Ada" (read : Yes).
Sometimes, the answer would be, "Takde..tak campur kentang pun" (read : nope,no potatoes added). So, we ended up buying a few RMs, only to find out later (to my utter disappointment) that it was full of potatoes! Double Bluek.
Predictably, I didn't eat these, so Zali would gobble 'em up in the end.

The only thing I can think of was, to make my own epok-epok sardine.
I know it's cumbersome and too painstaking, but no choice mah..
I just couldn't bear buying another plastic bagful of epok-epok and bring it back home only to find myself disappointed with the potatoes-full of epok-epok sardine!
Nak puas hati, bikin sendiri lah!
Right?
Riiiiiighhht!!

Since then, I've been making my own epok-epok sardine.
In fact, this is the third time in a span of 2 weeks I've been making epok-epok sardine. lol!
And nope, I'm not sick of it.
And I doubt I ever will..haha!

And now, for some tagging:
1. Deianira

2. Eriyza

3. Watie

4. Effa

5. Anyone.

Thanks Anne, for the tag. Made me appreciate my beloved epok-epok more. lol!
