:: Savoury Soup for the SouL ::

Hawra's upper teeth are emerging, so she's quite the grumpy girl nowadays.
As a result, she lost her appetite for food.
I was racking my brains out on what I should cook for her (without clashing with Hubs' appetite) today, and this is what I came up with.

//Engku Endau's 'Sup Ikan Gentel'//

This recipe was from our beloved Atok, almarhumah Engku Endau who passed away on my birthday in year 2002.
She taught me this recipe a few years back, when I recently married my dearest Hubs.
This 'ikan gentel' is far much more delicious, more fresh ( and healthier, if I might add) than those ready-made fishballs.

I don't stick to one type of fish for this recipe. Sometimes it would be ikan parang (a bit painstaking, have to remove all the bones- but the taste, masyaAllah..heavenly!), sometimes it would be red snapper (ikan merah), treadfin (ikan kurau), seabass (siakap), tenggiri (not sure what u call it in english, mackarel ke? heh).

But last night, I tried something new. Well, actually I am one lazy housewife to want to de-bone any type of fish no matter how easy it is. So, I bought Dory fillets. (Betul punya pemalassss mak kau ni, Hawra!)

Oh, in case some of you were wondering, you can prepare the fishballs paste overnight, or you can just prepare it straightaway. In my lazy state case, I prepared it last night so that I wouldn't have to rush and prepare everything today.

This is how the paste looks like.

Oh, do note that you have to pat dry the fillets with kitchen towels to absorb excess water before you dump it in the food processor/blender/or whatever it is you're using to blend it, so that you could form the fishballs easily without it sticking to your fingers.

Please ignore the chef's pudgy fingers. kwakwakwa

Bring the soup to boil before adding in the balls.

Once the balls float, turn off the heat, and serve with plain rice, noodles, macaroni.

So, what does my darling Hawra think of lunch today?

You should've cooked this for me aaaages ago. Mummy!
I'M LOVIN' IT!!!

*Do drop me an email if you're interested in this recipe.
I won't bite, I promise :)
